Russian Icon of the Iconostasis
Russian icon of the
Iconostasis (“The Image of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church”) from
the private collection. It was painted in the second quarter of the 19th century,
presumably in the village of Vetka in South Western Russia. Imitating
a six-tiered Russian iconostasis, this icon represents a highly detailed and
very beautiful iconographic type that was very popular with the Popovtsy, one
of the main factions of Old Believers.
