Russian icon of Saint Sergius of Radonezh, created in the 19th century in Moscow region
(possibly Guslitsy). This beautiful piece depicts Saint Sergius of Radonezh, a
highly venerated monastic reformer and spiritual leader of
medieval Russia, who founded the famous Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra in Sergiyev
Posad. The central image is surrounded by 16 hagiographical border scenes
showing different events related to the saint’s life, from the nativity and baptism
to his repose.
