Saint Nicholas Day – A Feast of Gifts
Today, the entire
Orthodox Church celebrates Saint Nicholas Day, a very special feast of the early Christian bishop Nicholas of Myra. Saint Nicholas Day is also a feast of gifts. The fact is that Nicholas
of Myra was called a bringer of gifts for his habit of helping the poor and giving
secret gifts to people. This legendary habit gave rise to the well-known model
of Santa Claus, a patron of Christmas, bringing gifts to children of the
world.
