Antique Russian Icon of Simon the Zealot

Antique Russian icon of Simon the Zealot, also known as Simon the Canaanite. Created by the anonymous icon painter in the first quarter of the 18th century, it is part of the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Church located on the Kizhi Island in Karelia, Russia. St. Simon was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and perhaps the most mysterious because very little is known about him and his life.
