Beautiful Paintings from the Met’s Collection
“Saint Jerome as Scholar” (c. 1610) by the Greek artist El Greco. This work
is not the first El Greco’s painting of Saint Jerome, but this one is notable
for the way the artist depicted the saint, both as the ascetic and as the
scholarly. The second featured painting is the amazing “Madonna and Child” (c.
1230s) by the Italian artist Berlinghiero Berlinghieri. Both works are in
the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met Fifth Avenue), one of
the best art museums in the world.
