16th-century icon of the
Holy Great Martyr Theodore Stratelates, also known as Saint Theodore
of Heraclea, painted presumably in Pskov, Russia. He is a Warrior Saint who
was a military commander in the Roman Army in the early 4th century until
being tortured and beheaded for his refusal to sacrifice to the Roman
gods. The Holy Great Martyr Theodore Stratelates is considered a
patron saint of soldiers and military people.
