Russian icon of the Martyr Charalambos of Magnesia, with 10 hagiographical scenes and the Royal Deesis. It was painted in the first third of the 19th century, presumably in Palekh. It depicts Saint Charalambos, an early Christian priest and bishop of the Greek city of Magnesia in Asia Minor, who lived during the reign of Septimius Severus. For his faith in Christ and refusal to offer sacrifice to idols, Saint Charalambos was tortured mercilessly. At the time of his martyrdom, he was 113 years old.
