Antique Icon of Saint Phanourios

Antique icon of Saint Phanourios who is known for finding people’s lost belongings after fervent supplications. The icon was painted in the mid-15th century by the famous Byzantine-Cretan hagiographer and icon painter Angelos Akotantos. Throughout his life, Akotantos created many icons of Saint Phanourios, often depicting the saint in the act of killing a dragon, similar to Saint George icons. This particular icon is now part of the Collection of Agia Aikaterini of Sinai, a fine art and archaeology museum in Heraklion, Greece.
