Icon of the Mother of God Pelagontissa

Icon of the Mother of God Pelagontissa, painted by the anonymous master in 1421-1422. This antique icon is a variation of the Eleusa type of the Mother of God icons, which depicts the Theotokos holding the Christ Child on her right side, who is supported by His mother with her both hands and nestled against her cheek. This beautiful image comes from Byzantium where it was venerated as a miraculous shrine.
