“The Unexpected Joy” Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos

The Unexpected Joy” icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, with Marian Feasts and Old Testament prophecies. It was painted in the third quarter of the 19th century, presumably in Moscow. This beautiful icon also features the text of the Akathistos to the Pokrov of the Mother of God in the upper field and the fragment of the Legend of the Unexpected Joy Icon from “The Watered Fleece” by St. Demetrius of Rostov in the lower field.
