Icon of the Prophet Daniel

Icon of the Prophet Daniel from the iconostasis of the Kizhi monastery in Karelia, Russia. It was painted by the unknown master in the first quarter of the 18th century. The icon depicts Daniel, a biblical prophet who appears in the Old Testament in the Book of Daniel. It is believed that Daniel survived to old age (presumably up to 100 years) and was buried in a tomb in the city of Susa, Iran. However, his tomb may also be located in Samarkand, Uzbekistan or Kirkuk, Iraq.
