Russian Icon of John the Theologian

17th-century Russian icon of John the Apostle, also known in the Orthodox Church as John the Theologian. According to the New Testament, John the Apostle, along with his brother James, was one of the Twelve Apostles. He is also listed as the youngest Apostle of Jesus, who was especially close to the Lord. In the icon, John the Theologian is depicted holding his Gospel in one hand and blessing with the other. The central image is surrounded by the scenes from the Apostle’s life.
