Icon of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple

Early 15th-century icon of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple from the collection of the State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg. It comes from the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir, one of a few temples featuring original frescoes by the greatest Russian icon painter Andrei Rublev. This particular piece, however, was likely created by Rublev’s apprentice. As the name suggests, this icon depicts an important episode in the life of Christ, describing His presentation in the Temple in Jerusalem.
