The Origin of the Honorable Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord

Early 16th-century icon of the Origin of the Honorable Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord. The icon’s composition is closely related to the life-giving spring at the Monastery of the All-Merciful Savior at the city walls of Constantinople and a piece of the True Cross brought there from the imperial chambers at the Hagia Sophia to celebrate the feast of the Origin of the Honorable Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord. This feast is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on 1 (14) August.
