19th-Century Russian Icon of the Iviron Mother of God

19th-century Russian icon of the Iviron Mother of God from the private collection. It is a copy of the wonderworking icon of the Panagia Portaitissa, an antique icon of the Virgin Mary, which has been kept at the Georgian Iviron monastery on Mount Athos in Greece since 999. According to the Orthodox tradition, the Panagia Portaitissa was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist himself. It belongs to the Hodegetria iconographic type of the Mother of God.
