Fresco of Christ “The Ancient of Days” from Ubisi, Georgia

14th-century fresco work depicting Christ “The Ancient of Days,” from Ubisi, a medieval monastic complex in Georgia. This is quite a controversial iconography of Christ, which is, however, a regular one in the Orthodox Church. The icon depicts Jesus as an old man with a tri-radiant halo to show that He existed from all eternity. This image comes from the description of God in the Book of Daniel: “And the Ancient of Days (God) took His seat; His garment was white as snow And the hair of His head like pure wool” (Daniel 7:9).
