Saint Nicetas of Medikion

Today, the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Nicetas of Medikion, also known as Saint Nicetas the Confessor. Saint Nicetas was a monk and abbot at the Midikion monastery on the Sea of Marmara in the early 9th century, who opposed Byzantine Iconoclasm. The image here is from the Menologion of Basil II, the 10th-century Eastern Orthodox Church calendar designed as an illuminated manuscript, which now resides in the Vatican Library.
